Starting therapy can feel a little intimidating—like walking into a room where you're not quite sure what will happen next. Whether you're feeling nervous, curious, or even skeptical, you're not alone. At Connecticut Counseling Group, we believe in making that first step as approachable and supportive as possible. Your first session is all about getting to know you. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out—we’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, what’s been going on lately, and what you’re hoping to gain from therapy. It’s okay if your answer is simply, “I just know something needs to change.” That’s a powerful place to start. Therapy isn’t about judgment or quick fixes; it’s a conversation grounded in curiosity, compassion, and collaboration. You can expect to be asked about your life experiences, emotions, and current challenges—but you’re always in control of how much you choose to share. Some people leave their first session feeling lighter, others more reflective; both are completely normal. You might also have questions about the therapy process, how often you'll meet, or what kind of support we offer—please ask!
Therapy works best when it’s a two-way connection, and we’re here to walk with you every step of the way. At Connecticut Counseling Group, we’re happy to provide more information about our services and answer any questions you may have about getting started. If you're ready to explore what healing and growth can look like for you, we’re here—and we can’t wait to meet you.
